“No Wonder It’s Beitou” (怪不得來北投) · Hyakki Ryōran: YOKAI WORLD (百鬼繚亂—妖怪WORLD)
The Beitou Yokai Stroll — Seek Out the Yokai, Collect the Stamps, Win a Prize!
Event period: 1 August 2026 – 14 February 2027
Yokai Sighting Update
Ten yokai have been appearing one after another across the streets of Beitou. Two of them, however, have home sites that are not yet open to the public, so for the time being they are staying with the neighbours at a temporary location.
Plum Garden is expected to reopen in early September and Sweetme Hotspring Resort in early October. Until then, these two yokai have moved to the venues listed below, where you are very welcome to seek them out and collect their stamps. Once their home sites reopen, each will return to its own base and carry on waiting to meet you.
The Ten Yokai and Where to Find Them
Before you set off in search of stamps, make a note of where each yokai has taken up residence.
◆ Temporarily relocated in the opening weeks (please take note)
- Kappa (河童) — home site Plum Garden (北投梅庭); until Plum Garden reopens in early September, temporarily stationed at the Beitou Hot Spring Museum (北投溫泉博物館)
- Kyūbi no Kitsune, the Nine-Tailed Fox (九尾狐) — home site Sweetme Hotspring Resort (水美溫泉會館); until the resort reopens in early October, temporarily stationed at the Beitou Museum (北投文物館)
◆ Permanent locations
- Tōfu-kozō, the Little Tofu Boy (豆腐小僧) — Beitou Hot Spring Museum (北投溫泉博物館)
- Bunbuku Chagama, the Tanuki Tea Kettle (文福茶釜) — Beitou Museum (北投文物館)
- Tengu (天狗) — Radium Kagaya International Hotel (日勝生加賀屋國際溫泉飯店)
- Nekomata, the Forked-Tail Cat (貓又) — Xiangyang Xinyuan, the former Japanese Army Garrison Hospital Beitou Branch (向陽心苑)
- Azuki-arai, the Bean Washer (小豆洗) — Xinbeitou Historic Station (新北投車站)
- Kasa-obake, the Umbrella Spirit (傘妖) — Beitou Heart Village (北投中心新村)
- Yanari, the House Creaker (家鳴) — Thermal Valley Sheltered Workshop (地熱谷庇護工場)
- Rokurokubi, the Long-Necked Yokai (轆轤首) — Beitou Asia Pacific Hotel (北投亞太飯店)
Where to Buy the Passport
Beitou Museum, Beitou Heart Village, Xinbeitou Historic Station, Beitou Hot Spring Museum, and the Thermal Valley Shop.
Price: NT$350, which includes one free admission to the Beitou Museum and one free admission to Xiangyang Xinyuan.
Please Note: The Stamp Stations at Beitou Museum and Xiangyang Xinyuan Are Inside the Venues
At these two sites, both the yokai stamp and the layered stamp are located inside the ticketed area, so you will need to complete admission before stamping.
- Passport holders: show your passport for one free admission. Front-desk staff will add the validation stamp to the first page of your passport, after which you may enter and collect the stamp.
- Visitors without a passport: a separate admission ticket is required before stamping.
We regret that we are unable to offer stamping without admission. Thank you for your understanding.
When visiting each stamp station, please check its opening hours and on-site rules and follow the guidance of staff, so that your stamp itinerary runs smoothly.
Collect All Ten Colours and Enter the Hot Spring Prize Draw
Visit all ten stamp stations and gather all ten colours of the layered yokai stamp on the final page of your passport. As the ten layers build up one on top of another, a yokai found only in Beitou will emerge — and that image is your entry to the prize draw.
Once the layered image is complete, photograph the page (please make sure that all ten stamp colours and the passport serial number are clearly legible) and upload it to the online entry form:
Online entry form ➨ https://tally.so/r/KYyVrA
Once your photo has been reviewed and approved, your entry is confirmed. The list of winners will be announced in early March 2027 on the museum’s official website, and winners will also be notified individually by telephone.
Prizes are sponsored jointly by local Beitou partners and include public bath passes from Kagaya, private tatami hot spring room passes from the Asia Pacific Hotel, hot spring mineral bloom (yunohana) gift sets from the Thermal Valley Shop, railway souvenirs from Xinbeitou Historic Station, a picnic mat from Beitou Heart Village, a commemorative handkerchief from the Hot Spring Museum, and a Tong set-menu voucher for the museum’s Yi Ran Ju dining room — with further sponsored prizes still being added.
Points to Note Before Entering
- Submission deadline: 23:59 on 28 February 2027. (Two further weeks are allowed for uploads after the event closes.)
- Each passport — that is, each serial number — may be entered in the draw once only. Where the same passport is submitted more than once, the first entry stands. Each person may win only one prize.
- The photograph must clearly show all ten stamp colours and the passport serial number. Entries that are blurred, incomplete or otherwise illegible will be treated as not having been completed.
- Winners who do not respond or who fail to complete the prize collection process within 14 days of notification will be deemed to have forfeited their prize.
- Under the tax laws of the Republic of China (Taiwan), winners of prizes valued at more than NT$1,000 are required to provide identification documents so that the prize can be reported for income tax purposes.
